What's the secret strategy to get there? And if it's, for example, Mark, if it's the entrepreneur,
how can they possibly convince you, if it's a new meeting, that the secret strategy to get your
attention?
Well, we're easy to apply to because we have real people looking at all of the deals.
But if you want to improve your odds, obviously find a connection. We reject deals,
but one person is interested. And if you can find that person, latch on and get them more
interested because they will bring a deal back to us after the company is, instead of being quarter
baked, is half baked.
I love that. Sayul. Well, the way that I see things is so much of it is just about who you are as a
person. So many deals, you could be in the best deal in the world, but if you're with a shitty
partner, you're not going to be taken care of. If shit hits the fan and you have the best partner
in the world, let's say you're in a very terrible deal, you know you're going to be taken care of.
Or at the very least, the person alongside of you is going to be facing the same things.
And then separately, you know, like if those people are, they really have to be in tune with what
they're doing. They have to be living it and loving it. You can never truly be good at something
unless you love it. and maybe you can be you know just good at the execution of that thing but
you'll you'll never be let's call it ethically good at that thing because you're not invested in
its success you're invested in your own success instead of like I always think about things as you
know what doing this kind of thing you know maybe it's great for me but it's not good business and
I think that that the the value of something that is good business versus not,
that's actually what you're looking for. You're not looking for necessarily the return. The return
will come as long as you're able to sort of unlock value in the community around you.
Dan, how can somebody get your attention?
We don't have a phone number on our website. We don't... We're very,
very careful who we work with now. We've been... robbed in every possible way contracts don't mean
anything they could if it's it's shared values and when you're lying with someone is this someone
if you're losing that you can fight with or is this someone because it's highly likely you're going
to lose more than you win and you know is this person reality based very hard time yeah great
advice and back to the relationships again Both of you, I'll second what she said about choosing
your partners wisely and bad times or tough times is when people really show their mettle and are
they working alongside you fighting or are they fighting against you? Very important.
As far as getting attention, I would say certainly coming to events like this and rooms like this
make a big difference because human contact, meeting somebody in person. really can make a big
difference. It's not gonna have me recommend your investment to people I represent who wouldn't be
interested in the investment, but be forthright.
develop their relationships, be patient, because sometimes they take time. People come up to me and
they'll say, hey, you know, you passed a few years ago. Would you reconsider? Of course,
reconsider. We evaluated it in the first place. There was something there,
even if we passed at the time, because it wasn't a hard no,
right? A hard no is... You know, you are in cannabis and we don't invest in cannabis.
Sorry, this is just the way that it is. Find somebody else and I wish you well.
But if it was a not now kind of now, then we're always open to reconsider people that we had spoken
to before. So I'd say be patient. but at the same time tenacious,
and know when a no is a not yet, and know when a no is a true no,
and do your research before approaching the allocator. Nobody's ever wrote in a check over the
internet. When you meet someone, you have ability to close ten times. Because people don't want to
say no, generally. They don't. And just before Jeff starts, Richard always talks about the 16x.
Every time you come to one of these meetings, he talks about 16x. You've got to be here in person.
And that's a common theme here. You really do have to be here in person. Jeff? Yeah, so what I
would say is it's really not a secret. Just know the person's contact information and reach out and
be persistent because we probably all get overwhelmed in communications. I mean,
I have literally three people that manage all my communication channels. and and i have i don't
know god knows how many different communication streams i guess best way to probably reach me to
make sure it cuts through all the noise would just be uh text me believe it or not and uh happy to
give anybody my my uh text numbers so you can just reach out via mobile or my email address but i
would say be patient because we are overwhelmed and at least i'm overwhelmed in communications and
i'm traveling the world constantly doing deals but I do want to see every deal because the best
deals that I've ever gotten that I've ever participated in actually came as a result of just being
available and being open and being willing to take a look and not having preconceived notions.
So I try to be as available as I can, but that creates its own problem. And so what I would say is
be patient, but probably text messaging is best for me.
