After 11 years working across two single family offices in industries spanning oil and gas, media, sports, and healthcare, this advisor launched her own boutique family office advisory firm. In under a year, she onboarded three Asian family clients and is now actively helping them allocate into U.S. markets - including a live mandate from a Hong Kong family office for positions in major private technology companies.
In this episode, she shares how cross-border family office advising actually works - the role of trust, the challenge of translating not just language but risk perception, and why Asian families define risk as permanent capital loss rather than market volatility. She also flags a major macro signal most U.S. investors aren't watching closely enough: a $140 billion government push into venture capital in Asia and what that means for regional stock exchange access.

I would like to thank Single Family Office Summit. This has been my fourth time,
I think, on the stage. And three years ago, thank you, Richard, for your support. I was still with
the single family office that I was working with. And today on this stage I have a different
identity because now I'm actually running my own family office advisory firm.
We just started a year ago and now we have onboarded three families all from Asia.
um and we're doing great so we are boutique family office advisory that we built the bridge and we
help to connect asian capital with investments in u.s um so we are we actually because from the
background that i was was 11 years in total with two single family offices i've been involved in
industries like oil and gas media sports and healthcare so right now there's three clients that
actually we have one is from oil and gas and the other is a renewable and the third one is actually
in retail tech so we have their mandates that we help them to allocate and give advice but not the
ultimate decision making they have to do it by themselves and connect them with meaningful
investment projects and also we are actually helping with ensuring two of the family's business in
u.s so that's a lot on the plate but also we run next generation mentorship program because some
of our clients, our prospective clients, they have their kids studying here and working here
between the age of 20 to 35. So we actually run the program and we help for looking,
helping them to look for internship opportunities in finance industries and also we get them
together to discuss topics like family, wealth, stewardship,
business environment in US, all the way to succession.
But I don't think that is what they're looking for because when we got together, in fact,
two nights ago, we just had a very intimate dinner. So we just want to create a safe space for them
to discuss their concerns and meet with people of their kind. So for investments,
we are right now The last month, we have mandates from Hong Kong Family Office on allocation of
entropic and space acts. I actually don't blame them because it has been very intense.
And honestly speaking, we don't like this kind of last minute, a lot of back and forth.
I usually go to bed at 1 a.m. because we have to accommodate. But then when I look at investments,
we often reflect on three levels. First is the level of trust.
Because we do a lot of cross-border, we do a lot of not only translation,
but also interpretation. So when the news travel that far, usually Asian families do not like
downside risk. So when there are a lot of people that approach us, say,
hey, do you want to do private credit? Would you like to get into some private deals? I say, I'm
sorry, because the principal, they are back there in Asia. They would never understand what we're
doing here. So better just stick with secondary market or big brands like Anthropic or SpaceX,
right? And then the second part, I would think because of the geopolitical environment we are right
now in, and also, Although most of the assets are still allocating US dollars,
however, there is actually a big elephant in this room that we're not discussing. It's actually the
debt problem. And that actually poses a lot of risk of depression or coming the weakening of the US
dollars in the long term. And so now we're seeing a lot of diversification, not only in currencies,
but actually across different regions. And some of you, if you're interested in what's happening
back in Asia, let me tell you, the Chinese government end of last year has just pushed $140 billion
into venture capital. And most of these companies,
their access will actually be with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. So that's one hint that we're
giving you. Thank you. Join the Family Office Club by visiting familyoffices.com.
