In this video, Richard Wilson shares the importance of values in building a successful business and strong relationships. Coming to you from Bali, Richard discusses how the core values of his Investor Club define how they operate, hire, fire, and grow together. Drawing on his experience as an Eagle Scout, Richard reflects on the Boy Scout Law, which outlines timeless values like trustworthiness, loyalty, and helpfulness, and explains why these principles should guide every decision you make in your business and personal life.

He challenges viewers to consider: Are your values clear? Are you working with people who align with those values? And, if someone doesn’t operate by your values, are they an “outlaw” in your world? Richard’s straightforward approach helps you see why aligning with the right people is critical for long-term success.

In this video, Richard discusses the importance of aligning your team with your values and how values shape business success. Don't be an outlaw - make sure your values are clear and embedded in your team's culture!

Richard Wilson here, coming to you from Bali. I just want to make a quick comment about values. I really believe the values of our investor club are our advantage. The values that we work by, hire by, fire by, and grow our business by are what really define us. Working with people who are most aligned with our values, and allowing people into our investor club who are most aligned with our values, is super critical. The more we grow, the more I see that is true.

I'm an Eagle Scout, as you may already know, and I've got a couple of Eagle Scout partners, so I like to tell the story about the Boy Scout Law. The Boy Scout Law is essentially the Boy Scout values. It’s basically saying you’ll live by these values if you’re a Boy Scout. The values are: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Now, it’s not important to go back and listen to or memorize those unless you want to. Those are just the values the Boy Scouts chose, right? The values of your business or your family may be completely different, but I’d like you to think about it this way. By chance, they called it the Boy Scout Law.

The way I think about it is that if people do not operate by those values, then they are an outlaw because they’re not following the Boy Scout Law—and we just don’t do business with them. I’ve found that even though it’s, you know, half-jokingly saying that they’re an outlaw, being that extreme about it just makes things really clear.

When you’re about to partner with someone, or you’re choosing who to hire, or deciding whether to keep an employee or give them another chance, really look at whether they’re 100% aligned with your values. Ask yourself: Are you very clear about your values? Are you clear about them to everybody around you and to yourself? Many times, when you’re not sure which fork to take in the road, you look at your values and the answer will become very clear.

I hope that’s helpful to a couple of our followers. If you want to learn more about our investor club, check out https://familyoffices.com/ Thank you.
