Mike Tyson | Richard and Dan’s Interview
Transcript: Family Office Club announces the Athlete Office Club interview series today with Richard Wilson and Daniel Pewter interviewing Mike Tyson.
Richard Wilson: "I'm going to bring up a friend, somebody who inspires me, and we're going to do a lot together in the future. Richard Wilson is the president and founder of the Family Office Club. They have over 5,000 family offices from around the world, but at the end of the day, they want to inspire athletes and young people to be able to do good. It's about financial issues, just like Richard Porte, Robert, and so many others. So, we’re going to do a few questions to inspire the kids. We're also doing this with other athletes, and we need more input from athletes to inspire more people. So, I’m just going to move the seats around a little bit, and then we’ll get started in about one minute. Guys, give us one second. Of course, yes. Here's what you guys, who's giving us applause?"
Richard Wilson continues: "So, Mark Cuban says, 'You don’t need to have all the money in the world. You just need to outwork and out-learn everybody around you.' I think that’s something Daniel is infusing in these schools and that Mike showed. If you outwork and out-learn everyone around you, it doesn’t matter where your background is. You can outpace anything you can imagine. So, I just want to share that. That’s why we’re doing this interview series with 100 pro athletes, and we’re starting here with Mike Tyson. Who better?"
Richard Wilson: "So, Mike, real quick before we start, this picture… I just like to look at this. Tell me what this means to you. When you saw this picture, was this the one you said, 'This is the one I want to have at my school and why?'"
Mike Tyson: "So, it’s interesting…"
Richard Wilson: "Awesome. I just wanted to ask you about that. Alright, first question. What visualization, affirmation, goal setting rituals, and strategies have you used to become the top 0.0001% performer in the world?"
Mike Tyson: "Well, some of the things I… my affirmation, I wouldn't want to say to people when I’m not in that mood, you know? 'Cause they… you know. Look at that, at that state of my affirmation, I’m God. That’s just where I go. I go to the universe with everything. I know, I’m the kind of guy that’s always being deep-watered because, you know, God knows my enemies can’t swim, so (laughs). 'Cause I’m always cool. So, I don’t worry about risk and trauma. They think nothing's impossible until somebody tries. You don’t give up anyway. I want to be up more than ever, I want to be down. And that’s what I want to do."
Richard Wilson: "Nice. Awesome. Got one more question. So, what’s a million-dollar lesson you could take from the pro athlete world and being top 0.01% and then take that to the business world or any career someone chooses?"
Mike Tyson: "Well, first of all, this: all great people are not good people. And once you learn that, you’ll face your life mostly becoming a good person. By being a good person, you’ll succeed in life."
Richard Wilson: "Who would agree with this? Got you. Thank you. Next question: how could anybody be the top 0.1% performer in their niche? They’re trying to be a good person, but they’re competing against other doctors, students, and business people. How do you become the best in your game?"
Mike Tyson: "You dedicate your life to being the best. You talk to yourself, ‘I’m the best. Nobody’s ever been born like me, I’m the best in the darkness.’ When you’re getting in a fight, you tell yourself, you tell yourself, and it doesn’t sound believable. The more you say it, the more you believe it. The more you believe it, the more you act on it. Right? You call what you believe."
Richard Wilson: "Awesome."
Mike Tyson: "You know, I’ve been interviewed 500+ times, thousands of times. The number... What is the number one question that nobody, hold on, I have a little learning challenge here, sometimes I’m reading. What is the number one question nobody asks but should have if they wanted to reach their full potential and dominate to be the Mike Tyson in their niche?"
Richard Wilson: "Well, their goals. Competition. All goals have to be more important than their happiness. Sorry to say."
Mike Tyson: "Wow."
Richard Wilson: "So, it’s like… so for me, I get up, sometimes when I don’t want to, I go bust my ass. Because for me, if I transform an organization with my partners and with you, but sometimes it hurts. How does that affect you?"
Mike Tyson: "That’s what life is about. We don’t feel pain when we understand that. Pain is nice when we all love each other. You know, everything that we love, if it’s going to touch you, we’ll learn how to experience that feeling until we know it’s the best we can."
Richard Wilson: "Great, yeah. My last question then. Today, as well, people want to find the four-hour workweek, the magic bullet, the easy way, the lazy way, the shortcut way. Everyone in here who’s successful or supported this school is because they worked very, very hard, harder than most people. What is the secret to working very, very hard, besides affirmation, besides being summoned by Muhammad Ali? How do you work 10 times harder than everyone else around you for every student here that’s listening and wanting to be inspired, just like you were?"
Mike Tyson: "It’s all about developing your confidence, you know? Confidence. Confidence is just confidence. Being successful, success creates confidence. And confidence applied properly to the superhuman genome… So, you don’t have to believe in yourself. Because what if you’re losing your second? You’re God. I know it’s hard to believe that. Believe it, you’re God."
Richard Wilson: "Do you guys give a big round of applause? Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
